Ngaruru Bay on the eastern side gives the best all weather shelter with good holding and is also protected from the ferry wash. Ngaruru is a scenic reserve.
Care should be taken to ensure the anchor digs in properly. A pick anchor will often dig through the weed on the bottom better than other types. There is a combined club mooring in the bay.
